Dr. Al-Hemyem receives UNESCO Deputy Director-General and Director of UNESCO’s Iraq Office to discuss close cooperation and joint agreements
Dr. AbdulLatif Al-Hemyem The Head of the Sunni Endowment Office received Deputy Director-General of UNESCO, Mr. Nicholas Cassianides and Director of UNESCO’s Office in Iraq,
Mr. Paolo Fontani, during which they discussed strengthening close cooperation, joint agreements and projects between Diwan and UNESCO, in the presence of (Dean of Imam Al-Azam College, Director General of the Department of Islamic Institutions, Director General of the Engineering Department, Director General of the Zakat and Charity Fund Department, and General Coordinator of the Diwan with the organization) where his Excellency reviewed what has been accomplished with The organization, business and future aspirations shared with them, which included several topics, including:
– Reconstruction of the mosques and heritage and archaeological buildings belonging to the Waqf in Baghdad and the provinces and their rehabilitation and documentation and training the capabilities of engineering and administrative cadres and development and how to deal with them, and the development of a specialized section in heritage and archaeological buildings and the signing of a number of contracts in this field.
– Taking care of manuscripts and documents and the development of a center and hospital of its own, and training of staff on how to restore, maintain and preserve manuscripts and equip the center with the latest equipment and supplies for the manuscript hospital. This is the first step. To complete the needs of the center and train and develop the capabilities of the staff, this needs two more phases.
– The need to activate joint cooperation in the field of education and provide important educational supplies for schools and develop the capabilities of educational, teaching and supervisory cadres
– The creation of the UNESCO Chair at the Imam Al-Azam University College under the name of the Manber of moderation, moderation and moderate religious discourse, and the consolidation of the joint cooperation between the college and the organization and international universities.
Rehabilitation and modernization of libraries using the latest digital programs and training of their staff.
It was also stressed the need to accelerate the steps of the work in the projects, and that the Diwan is ready to complete all the work assigned to it, and to provide all administrative, functional and logistical requirements for the projects.
The delegation expressed great satisfaction with the attention it has received from the Diwan and informed them of the aspects of the work in the projects, stressing the readiness of the organization to cooperate with the Diwan in all fields.
The delegation went to Mosul to learn about the reconstruction of al-Nuri Mosque, the Old District and other joint projects.
